Raymond overstated it a little. Quinta wasn't from the Anderson family after all.
Scarlett frowned because she didn't want to embarrass Clair. She had a lot of ways to deal with Quinta in private, and there was no need to settle with her on such occasions.
As Scarlett was about to speak, Quinta said, "Wow, | have to admit you're really good, Scarlett. You're divorced, but your ex-husband still stuck up for you. You're really popular with men, aren't you?" They were so loud that more and more guests were looking at them. Henry was notified as soon as someone realized it was Quinta.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtClair happened to be with Henry. When he knew Scarlett was bullied, his face suddenly clouded.
'l brought Scarlett in myself. Who on earth had the nerve to bully her? Is he out of his mind?' Clair wondered.
"You're a real catch!" Quinta said with heavy irony.
Henry was unable to suppress his anger when he walked to Scarlett. As he approached them, he heard Quinta's words and was so angry that he almost threw his glass at Quinta.
But Clair spoke sullenly before Henry, "Scarlett is an honored guest of my birthday party, Quinta. How could you bully my guest of honor at my birthday party? Is that how you respect your elders?" Clair's voice was not loud, but the hearts of the other guests lurched when he finished, not to mention how nervous the rest members of the Anderson family were. After all, Clair was one of the most influential figures in this circle.
Clair then said, "Guards, cin! Take Miss Rodriguez out!" Then the faces of everyone in the Anderson family changed. They wanted to say something, but Clair's sullen face frustrated them.
Quinta then was kicked out, and Clair glanced around, "Rumors stop at the wise and I believe all of you here are wise men. Scarlett is a good girl. My greatest wish i s nothing more than to have a daughter. However, Henry's a boy. Today, | brought Scarlett in myself, and I'm sure everyone here has sconjectures of that. | confess that | would very much like Scarlett to be my daughter-in-law. But children these days do not like arranged marriages.
Since Scarlett doesn't have feelings for Henry, | can't force her." "But | would also be glad if Scarlett would treatas her own father. Henry gaveno peace, and people said daughters are parents' sweet.” Clair then looked a t Scarlett, "If you don't mind, will you be my goddaughter to meet my wish, Scarlett?" Clair's sullen face then becbrighter, and he smiled at Scarlett, "Take your time. | want to make sure you think this through. You needn't have any misgivings." Scarlett had no idea that Clair would say so on such occasions. He not only recovered her reputation but also told everyone that he would be her backer ever since. Though she didn't need it, anyone who wanted t o disrespect her after that would have to think twice.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmScarlett was a little moved. Clair then cto pat her kindly on the shoulder, "Well, let's cut the cake, my sweetheart." Instead of asking for her answer, Clair gave her an out.
Scarlett looked at Clair with emotion. No one had ever been stuck up for her since her parents died.
It did feel good to have someone to back you up.
No one expected this tic scene to happen. One second before, Scarlett was the object of ridicule, and the next, she becthe object of envy.
The Anderson family was not your average rich family. One would be respected even if only knowing Henry, let alone be Clair's goddaughter! Since Clair put it this way, Scarlett had to nod and reply with a smile, "I've cooled down. Don’t be nasty about it, Mr. Anderson." Hearing that, Clair suddenly smiled, "Look, you can't put up with her like this! Why are you being polite to her after what she did to you?" Scarlett smiled faintly, "I remember every word she scolded me." Clair was stunned for a while before he caught on, and he began to laugh.
The guests were confused about Clair's laugh. Seeing Scarlett was also laughing, they only thought that Scarlett really knew how to flatter Clair!
