Just as Scarlett was looking through the menu, she caught a glimpse at Linley, and she narrowed her eyes and asked, "Is that Roland?" Linley looked at Scarlett and nodded, "Yes." Scarlett ordered her food. She handed the menu to Katherine and then she asked Linley, "Do you mind turning on the speaker?" Linley handed her phone straight to Scarlett. Scarlett picked up the phone and she turned on the speaker.
Roland's angry yell cthrough the phone, "Linley, you got a nerve! You threatenedand demanded a divorce! And you told our neighbors that | was cheating on you! Do you think | can't do anything about you?" Roland continued to yell, "If you don't send all the furniture back, you won't seeat the City Hall!" Somehow, he thought his threat wasn't frightening enough. He added, "Linley, believe it or not! | can send you all to hell, you and your poor parents!" Since Roland was a child, this was the first the had been threatened like this.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe had been furious when an old lady had just blamed him for cheating. When he got hand found that all the furniture was gone, he exploded with rage.
He thought Linley should be glad she was around him right now, otherwise, he'd be beating the crap out of her, not to mention giving her a divorce! Linley had been married to him for two years. In the first six months of their marriage, the two had shappy days. But the Holden family was powerful in the town, and Roland had been a jerk since he was a kid. After the passion and illusion faded, Roland began to show his true colors. Whenever he felt not happy, he would hurl insults or throw punches at Linley. He was a monster.
Linley put up with that for over a year to keep her parents from worrying. It was not until Linley's old story was exposed and Roland later boldly took his lover out in public that Linley filed for divorce.
But Linley had been bullied by the man for so long that she was used to being afraid and submissive to him.
Now Linley had made up her mind to get a divorce, but still, a deep-seated fear was in the bottom of her heart.
When she heard Roland's threat, Linley's face turned pale.

Katherine reached out and took Linley's hand in hers. "Ms. Tucker, don't worry.
With Ms. Reed here, no one can hurt you." Scarlett took over the phone and said, "Mr. Holden, do you believe | can send you to hell too?" Scarlett had a faint smile on her face as she asked him, and her voice was as soft as if she was talking about the lovely weather, yet it was oppressive.
Roland froze. His hand on the phone trembled. He gritted his teeth, "Ms. Reed, I've agreed to get a divorce with Linley.
Now everyone knows about my affair. That's fine. But Linley has taken all the furniture from my house. Do you think that’s okay?" "Linley bought all that furniture. Now you guys are getting a divorce and she’s taking her furniture. What's wrong with that?" Scarlett continued after a pause, "Mr.
Holden, | don’t have a lot of patience, Linley wants a divorce from you, and she can wait as long as she wants.
But | don’t think your company can wait long. Cto the City Hall at 2:30 p.m.! If you get one minute late, I'll see you in court." Right after that, Scarlett hung up the phone. Then she handed the phone back to Linley and smiled at her, "Don’t worry. If he doesn't divorce you, we'll sue him with bigamy." Linley was dumbfounded for a moment, "Is that okay?" Scarlett propped up her arm to hold her chin and winked at Linley, "Do | look like I'm lying?" Looking into Scarlett’s beautiful eyes, Linley's fear and anxiety dissipated. She also smiled, "No, you don’t."
