Chapter 1453
John simply could not resist the urge to get closer to her. He drew in closer until his fair and handsome face was
inches away from Sherry’s.
Sherry immediately backed away until the back of her head hit the wall. She warned him sternly. “If you kiss me
again, I’m going to scream for help for real this time.”
He licked his lips and seemed to consider the option.
Then, he gently stroked her cheeks with a finger and asked the same question again, “Answer me, what’s your
relationship with Carl?”
The heat of his palm scalded her face.
Sherry was keenly aware of the sudden change in his body temperature.
Even his grip around her waist had become forced and filled with temper.
She suddenly felt afraid as this man was going to do something reckless to her.
She glared at him angrily and answered at last, “A
common relationship of a superior and a subordinate .”
John leaned closer toward her, one slight movement and his lip would touch hers. “Who’s the superior in this
situation?”
Sherry sighed. “I’m the superior.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJohn smiled, amused by this. “You, a superior?”
Sherry cocked an eyebrow and snorted.
John seemed like he was still processing this information.
“Haha…” He laughed and finally let go of her.
Sherry angrily shoved him away and began marching
away, stamping her feet against the ground as hard as she could.
John watched her silently with a deep and ruminative look turning in his eyes.
After a while, he walked back toward the crowd as well.
Meanwhile, underneath the shade of the shadows behind a certain wine cabinet was a figure hidden there during
the entirety of John and Sherry’s exchange.
After ensuring that the two had left, Julie stepped out.
Even in the darkness, her eyes glowed a menacing red.
She clenched her fist so hard that it seemed like her nails would dig into her flesh.
After a while, she recomposed herself and returned to her usual gentle self.
It was very lively inside the venue, with plenty of people formed together in circles and conversations to be had
everywhere.
Sherry quickly scanned the crowd to look for Carl, but unfortunately, the first person she spotted was Janine and
Matthew.
They quickly approached her.
Sherry grimaced tightly and immediately began walking away.
“Sherry, stop right there!” Janine yelled after her.
She only halted for a brief moment before continuing to escape.
“Sherry, can’t you hear your mother telling you to stop?” Matthew immediately marched up to her and hissed at
her sharply.
Sherry seemed repulsed by the sheer sight of them. She crossed her arms over her chest defensively and said, “My
mother? If my memory serves me correctly, it was her who declared in public that she’d never acknowledge that
I’m her daughter.”
Janine’s eyes flashed with rage.
Matthew seemed taken aback by this, he expressed with a tired sigh, “We were the ones who misunderstood you
the last time. We were led to believe that you had stolen the invitation card.”
Did they expect forgiveness with such a half–hearted apology?
Sherry sneered. “Misunderstanding, you say? More like you guys didn’t want to have anything to do with me for the
sake of your reputation, right?”
Matthew immediately stiffened. He looked like a child who had his lies exposed.
Janine voiced angrily, “Sherry, your father and I have already apologized to you. What else do you want us to do?
Do you want us to get on our knees and beg for forgiveness?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSherry scoffed. “Oh, enough with the usual ‘your father
and I‘ rhetoric. First of all, I’m not your daughter and
second of all, your real beloved daughter is still in prison.”
This sudden reminder drained all the color from Janine’s face.
Even Matthew seemed to jerk back at the mention of Shannon.
Suddenly, they found themselves at a loss for further accusations because they remembered it was Shannon who
hired someone to take out Sherry. That was how she ended up thrown in prison in the first place.
Sherry walked away from them with a scowl on her face.
After she passed through the crowd, she finally found Carl. He was in the middle of a conversation with Jake who
kept a flattering smile across his face the entire time.
Carl was leaning lazily against the wall and listening to whatever Jake had to say with mock interest while sipping
from his glass of wine.
Sherry frowned at the sight of Jake.
Both Carl and Jake quickly noticed her.
Jake was the first one to greet her as he smiled at her with such sincerity that he looked like a saint. “Sherry, where
have you been? I was just looking for you and couldn’t
find you anywhere so I ended up chatting with Young Master Sager over here.“
