Chapter 37 Dante’s POV.
This was the last thing | f ucking needed right now. The last thing | expected to be thrown at me.
The words that were thrown from Pheobe’s mouth along with the information that she had just revealed before proclaiming her lovehung in the early morning air. My ears heard her loud and clear but my mind refused to acknowledge what she had said and give any sort of truth to her claim.
This could not he possible. If | recalled correctly, | had not touched Pheobe since | lay eyes on Sophia again. So, this was all sounding a little too sudden. | would have known if | had knocked her up enough to not be in doubt.
| looked at the woman standing in front oflooking pale and unlike her usual well kept self. The colour was drained from her face, her I*ps were a tad bit dry and | could see it from across the room right where | stood. Had it not been for her current state, | would have assumed that she was lying but she looked sick and drained from perhaps throwing up her stomach before getting here.
My mind silently baffled between what | knew and the desperation that Pheobe displayed before me. Never would she had ever dared to be cau so bedressed on even her worst day. Phoebe was a little obsessed with her appearance but could the strain of early pregnancy get down so bad that it caused her to focus on more important things than doing her hair and make up before she could. see another person for the day? “When you turnedaway, kickingout of your hand life | thought | was ruined but | willed myself to keep going but being pregnant leavesno choice but to beg at your feet, Dante. For our child.” She added that last bit with a whimper and | clenched my jaw tightly.
“You claim that this is my child but, Pheobe, please try to remember correctly. | had not- we hadn't. been intimate in months.” My words battled to remain calm and gentle since she already looked fragile enough and | didn’t want to hurt her but, on the other hand, | was so sure that this could not he possible.
Phoebe’s I*p trembled and she sniffled like she was trying to keep her tears from falling from her eyes. She averted her gaze fromand moved to the corner of the study where the large window over looked the front fountain.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“I knew that this would happen. | knew that you would forget that night.” She muttered vaguely and | felt my brows furrow together in sheer and utter confusion.
“What the hell are you talking about, Pheobe?” | demanded to know. My patience had been growing thin and | did not want this to be true.
“Do not get hauty with me, Dante. It is you who has putin this situation, you who is responsible for my helplessness. So, don’t you dare get snappy with me. Ahh, there was the Pheobe | had cto know and loathe.
The sharp tongued woman beneath this weakling of a facade that she wore now.
As if she had recalled her desperate need, she sniffled and swallowed audibly. Her breath was shaky, her shoulders slumped, and her fingers dabbing the corners of her red eyes.
@70% Chapter 37 “It was about a month ago when this happened. | had remained at hwhile you attended smeeting. | was expecting you to cback sooner but hours past by before | heard. your car pull up. | had already tucked myself in to bed but there was quite a commotion coming from the hall way which disturbed my slumber. | got out of the room to see what all the noise was about and that’s where | saw the footman and your chauffeur trying to guide you, in your drunken state, to the room but you were angry and insisted on fighting them until you saw me.” She paused to inhale and | wracked my brains inside and out trying to recall this incident.
There was one night that | drank myself silly and that was the night | saw Sophia with Adam Huxley and | didn’t know how to process it but to drink my liver away.
“You only calmed down once you saw me, sthing | felt proud about, knowing that you wouldn't hurteven when you were so angry and drunk.” She smiled but it faded as she went on and she gave her head a small shake. “Anyways, | helped your out of your clothes and for you in to bed before getting under the covers myself.
You babbled on then hiccuped them fell asleep. If was only after you had fallen asleep did | find myself relax enough to sleep myself but just as | began to dip in to sleep, your hand reached over and wrapped aroundtightly. At first, | presumed that you just wanted to cuddle and didn’t question it but you began to get needy and eager and one thing had lead to another.” She threwa pinned look tellingto fill the blanks but that is all it had been... blanks.
“You slept in till noon the next morning and I let you be undisturbed thinking you'd remember what had transpired between us the night before. However, much to my dismay, you remembered nothing and continued to withdraw from me. | didn’t remind you of what happened because | didn’t think it was significant but that was obviously until | knew what | knew now. | didn’t think it would lead to such a huge development but it did and here we are.” She shrugged a little forlorn.
where 1 | heard her entire narration of the night that | held no recollection of aside from the part was out at the bar getting absolutely hammered in my raging jealousy. | eyed her suspiciously waiting for even the smallest c rack in her story but | found none. Her composure was strong and steady and | couldn’t detect the skeptism that | was trying to find.
“I shall give you the benefit of the doubt.” | said catching her shoulders relax and the brightness return to her eyes the moment those words rang in her ears.
“But-“I began firmly narrowing my eyes at her warning her not to celebrate too early. “Once the child is born, | will do a paternity test just to make sure what you're saying is true.” She smiled a little too eagerly for my liking.
“Yes, yes. Of course.” She nodded rapidly. “It is only natural that’s you'd want such proof.” She agreed withand | found it very unlike Pheobe to be so... accommodating.
My mind was still trying to wrap itself around this new development. It was the last d mn thing | expected let alone wanted especially with the what had just happened between Sophia and L. The woman had finally opened her bed to be and the past few days that | have shared it with her had. been utter euphoria.
My phone buzzed on my pocket and | reached to see who had been calling. Sophias nflashed across the screen. | swore under my breath. We had plans for breakfast ones that were not consisting of food. Phoebe showing up here unannounced had taken up far more tthan I thought.
I had 23 11:27 Wed, 6 Mar R Chapter 37 | knew better than to take this call in front of Pheobe so | muted it until | could leave the study. This was a delicate matter now. | needed to know how to keep Sophia in my life again whilst dealing with Pheobe and her situation until | knew for sure that what she was saying had been true.
Moving out from behind the desk, | headed to the door but Pheobe called forright before I could step out of the study.

“Go ahead.” | raised an impatient brow at her.
“We should get married.” She blurted out and covered my shock with a small cough.
She couldn't be serious. | watched her carefully waiting for her to correct herself or say sthing that would indicate that maybe | had heard her wrong but she did not rectify herself. If any thing she stood more tall and proud.
“You are serious.” It cout as more of a surprise to me.
She nodded. “I am serious. You can’t expectto carry your child and be unmarried while | do so. It is embaras sing. People will talk and | can’t handle any more scandal.” She insisted but was stunned by her ask.
“That's a bit extreme. It won't be necessary.” | said flat out dissming it but she stepped forward.
“Extrto you, maybe, but toit givesthe respect | need for baring your child. | don’t think it’s unreasonable of an ask, Dante. It was in our plans any ways to marry and have a family together. | don’t see why now it’s such a hard no.” She crossed her arms below her chest and eyedwith a hard look in her icy orbs.
“The answer is no, Pheobe. | will do no such thing | denied her request flat out and stormed out ignoring her string of curses and shouting the ensued behind me.
| needed to be far far away from her and the only person my b*dy yearned for was Sophia and where she was is exactly where | steered my car to getting there in half the tthan it would usually taketo get to her.
