Chapter 18

“Drive,” Joshua responded curtly, with an undeniable air of authority.

Mr. Cheyne started the car and drove out of the villa. His intuition told him that if they went through this divorce, his boss would regret it later. More importantly, he had a feeling that Mrs. Neal had an unusual background. If she were an ordinary person, it would have been easy for him to find out where she had studied, which university she had attended, and where she had worked before. However, last night he found nothing except that her name was Cynthia, and she was female. It was simply baffling.

Mr. Cheyne asked again while driving. “Mrs. Neal, would you like to reconsider? Our boss is handsome and rich. You’ll be at a loss if you divorce him.”

Although he respected his boss, he still dared to speak up about certain matters, such as their marriage and now, their divorce.

Cynthia looked at the back of his head and simply said, “No matter how good–looking or wealthy he is, he’s still a scumbag.”

Mr. Cheyne and Joshua were speechless.

“Boss, would you like to reconsider?” Mr. Cheyne had no choice but to shift the target.

Joshua gave him a very oppressive look.

Pretending not to see, Mr. Cheyne continued, “Ms. Shaw is your past, and Mrs. Neal is your present. Abandoning the present for the past is an unwise decision.”

“Just drive,” Joshua responded irritably.

As Mr. Cheyne continued to drive, he casually mentioned, “Don’t ask me to help you win her back if you really do divorce her.”

A chill ran through Joshua’s body. Perhaps he had not been giving this guy enough work lately, which was why he felt he could interfere in his personal life.

The car continued on its way, arriving at the Civil Affairs Bureau at eight–fifty in the morning. Mr. Cheyne had already arranged everything and accompanied them to apply for divorce. Watching the couple fill out the forms, Mr. Cheyne pushed up his gold–rimmed glasses, took out his phone, and sent a message. [Second young master, the boss and Mrs. Neal are getting a divorce.]

Mr. Cheyne silently turned off his phone screen. Why did he ever think the second young master would be of help?

Just as he was about to check on the progress of the application, the second young master

called him. He walked to one side to answer, speaking in a hushed tone, “Second young master.

“I forgot to ask earlier, how are they dividing their assets in the divorce?” A casual and somewhat sloppy voice came through on the other end.

Mr. Cheyne thought for a moment before replying, “Apart from investments and other financial assets, they’ll split their salary and dividends evenly, as well as share ownership of their most expensive supercar and a villa in the suburbs.”

“That’s good.” The person on the other end said before hanging up the phone.

Mr. Cheyne wondered if these two were really brothers?

Cynthia and Joshua completed all the procedures and were informed that there was a 30–day cooling–off period. After 30 days, they could obtain their divorce certificate if they still wished to divorce; otherwise, either party could cancel the process. The two left the Civil Affairs Bureau after understanding the process.

Everything went smoothly.

As Mr. Cheyne drove them back, he planned to say something more but ended up remaining silent. After all, there was still a month–long cooling–off period, so there was no rush.

However, when he dropped them off at the villa, he realized that the situation was far more serious than he had imagined. It dawned on him that Cynthia truly intended to divorce. Even Joshua hesitated for a moment when he saw the moving company’s truck.

“Mrs. Neal,” Mr. Cheyne, sensing his boss’s confusion, took the initiative to ask on his behalf,

“Did

you call the moving company?”

“Yes.” Cynthia nodded and got out of the car.

She quickly went to speak with the moving company, asking them to wait a bit while she packed up her belongings. Although she had lived there for a year, she did not have many personal items.

Mr. Cheyne noticed the atmosphere in the car becoming more somber, so he turned and tentatively asked, “Boss, aren’t you going to stop her?”

“Stop what?” Joshua’s tone was cold.

“If Mrs. Neal really moves out, your marriage is basically over.” Mr. Cheyne advised, hoping for the best for his boss after so many years by his side, “With her personality, once she leaves, she won’t come back.”

“Is this a matter of your concern?” Joshua became even more irritated by his words.

He glanced sideways, his gaze landing on Cynthia as she chatted with the moving company. Seeing her unaffected demeanor, a heavy feeling settled in the pit of his stomach.

The next moment, he opened the car door and stepped out.

“I’ll be done in half an hour. Just wait for me a little bit,” Cynthia explained to the moving company, not expecting them to arrive early.

“Alright,” the movers replied politely.

After finishing her negotiations, Cynthia headed inside and happened to bump into Joshua.

“You’re moving out?” Joshua stared at her intently.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Cynthia looked at him, puzzled. “What do you mean why?”

Joshua explained calmly, his tone as detached as ever, “You can stay here for the month before the divorce. There’s no need to move out so soon.”

“I don’t need to. I’ve already found a new place. Since we’re getting divorced, it’s better to move out sooner,” Cynthia declined.

Seeing her resolute attitude, Joshua ultimately held back whatever he was about to say.

Cynthia did not waste another breath on him. She could not stand being in the villa for even a moment longer.

Half an hour was not long, but it was not short either. Cynthia quickly packed up all her belongings into two suitcases and several boxes. The moving company carefully loaded her things onto the truck one by one.

Mr. Cheyne observed the scene, standing next to Joshua, and adjusted his glasses. “Boss, she is about to leave.”

“Do you think I don’t know that?”

“Once she leaves, she might not come back.”

Joshua sighed inwardly.

“Do you really want to let her go?”

“Have you handled Jayleen’s case?” Joshua changed the topic, trying to suppress the

discomfort in his heart. “Why did the suspect hire a driver to hit her? Have the police come up with any results?”

Mr. Cheyne felt a little disgruntled.

Joshua continued, “If you don’t know the answers, pay more attention to the case.”

“Boss.”

“Speak.”

“I have

on for you.” Mr. Cheyne hesitated before speaking up.

Joshua looked at him, his gaze urging him to get to the point.

Mr. Cheyne paused for a moment, then asked, “Do you genuinely like Ms. Shaw?”
