Chapter 444
Steffan was quite a sentimental man. He was still using the same phone number he had five years ago.
“Steffan, it’s me. Can we talk about adopting Sunshine…”
Esther added from the side, “And Twinkle…”
Steffan’s light, mocking tone reached Esther’s ears. “Xara, you couldn’t even be a good
mother to your own son. Now you want to be a mother to others?”
Xara’s pretty face flushed with shame. “Steffan, Esther only wants us to adopt them in name. It’s not
like we are really adopting them-”

Xara was momentarily startled, her grip tightening on the phone as she sought Jacob’s opinion.
“Jacob, can we temporarily help Esther adopt Twinkle and Sunshine?”
Esther was also watching Jacob anxiously. “Jacob, I’m begging you….” she said pleadingly.
“I agree.”
Those two words from Jacob were like music to Esther and Xara’s ears.
“Thank you, Jacob.” Esther was incredibly grateful. Jacob was truly a good child.
“Steffan, did you hear that? Jacob agreed. Can we go and adopt Sunshine and Twinkle now?”
“Xara, what time is it now?” Only then did Xara realize that it was already dark outside.
“So, first thing tomorrow… Can we go to the church and adopt Sunshine and Twinkle?”
Steffan grunted in acknowledgment and hung up the phone, his demeanor still cold and indifferent.
Facing Esther’s worried gaze, Xara was ecstatic. “Esther, it’s all settled. You don’t have to worry about
Sunshine and Twinkle. Steffan still has some influence, and I’m confident the adoption will be
successful.
“However, the process probably can’t be completed in a day. Do you want to wait until it’s finalized
before returning to your country? Or would you like to head back first?”
“I’ll wait until tomorrow when you guys go to adopt them before returning home,” Esther said.
She wanted to ensure that Xara and Steffan could fully adopt Sunshine and Twinkle. Returning home

“Okay.”
Esther’s face lit up with joy, and she immediately shared this good news with Anna.
Seeing Esther’s happiness, Xara suggested, “Why don’t we let the children continue playing? We can
have some time to talk.”
“Sure.”
After their rushed parting in their previous meeting, Esther and Xara had been apart for at considerable
time. Yet, human connections could be remarkably unique. Certain people emanated a sense of
familiarity right from the first encounter, and Esther and Xara were a perfect example.
Now, they sat at the Sandersons’ mini bar amidst an ambiance of vibrant, twinkling lights.
Xara poured a glass of wine, swiftly downing, its contents before asking, “Esther, if you were in my
position, would you consider having another child with Bradley?”
