“How much longer until the defenses in the corridor are down?” she asked.
“About three more minutes,” Gordon responded.
“Not long enough,” she muttered under her breath.
If those defenses had stayed active a bit longer, Verruckt could have met his end here, turning the lab into
chaos. It would have been the perfect opportunity for her to slip away unnoticed.
Hearing the bitterness in her voice, Gordon clenched his fists on the other end of the line, wishing he could crush
Verruckt for the pain he'd caused Allison.

Verruckt’s eyes, glowing a fierce shade of crimson, blazed with fury. Unbothered by his injuries, he slammed his
shoulder into the door with monstrous force.

The door shattered, a third of it splintering away under his raw power.
Light spilled into the room, revealing it to be empty, save for a bloodstained lab coat discarded on the floor.
