Chapter 748:
“This is my first attempt at making steak,” Allison said. Noticing his hesitation, she picked up a knife and began
cutting the steak, her movements unhurried and precise.
“I could only get these ingredients from the downstairs market. Nothing fancy, but I hope it'll do.”
Verruckt’s gaze shifted from the food to her face. “The supermarket here isn’t exactly cheap,” he noted. “Where
did you get the money for steak?”
“Sharp as ever, Mr. Shaw!” She placed a bank card on the table with a casual air. “Mr. Williamson gavethis,”
she explained. “He thought | might serve you something too ordinary, so he insisted | splurge a little.”
“Meddlesas always,” Verruckt muttered, his tone cold. He then picked up the knife and fork, signaling his
agreement to stay.
Allison slid the card back into her pocket. “If it bothers you, I'll return it tomorrow. Just don’t hold it against him.”
“It’s insignificant,” Verruckt replied with a dismissive wave. He began slicing his steak with the precision of a
surgeon, his deliberate movements and nonchalant demeanor almost unnerving.

After a moment, he paused, his eyes narrowing.
“The steaks look different,” he observed.
Allison, anticipating his suspicion, explained with ease. “I heard you prefer medium-well, but | like mine well-
done. They'll naturally look a little different.”
Verruckt tilted his head, scrutinizing her. “Actually, | prefer well-done.”
Without hesitation, he swapped the plates.
Allison didn’t flinch. After all, she was well aware that he was sensitive and suspicious.
“How does it taste?” she asked, her voice tinged with genuine curiosity.
“Not bad.” Verruckt spoke curtly, then, after a brief pause, added, “It’s surprisingly good — like something from a
five-star restaurant.”
“That's a relief,” Allison said with a small smile.
After all, Maple Tree Restaurant was indeed a five-star establishment, so the food was bound to be delicious, and
she wasn’t about to reveal that detail. Allison was still a little taken aback by his excellent taste, though.
She opened the wine bottle with practiced ease, the cork popping audibly. She did that openly in front of him to
show that she had nothing to hide.
“Let me,” he offered, reaching forthe
