“So you cback to die?” Verruckt’'s eyes moved from her slightly swollen lips to her red, tear-filled eyes. She

“Alice, if | were you, I'd just take the money and disappear.” His cold, judgmental gaze remained fixed on her.
Allison's eyes began to well up with tears as she heard that.
“I did think about it,” she replied, her voice quiet. “But you and Mr. Williamson have been so good to me. If | left
like that, I'd never find peace.” She let a tear fall at the perfect moment. “I'm sorry. | know I've probably been a
burden to you once again.”

break it.
“Because if | die, you and the lab will suffer the sfate.” His gaze was sharp and heavy, pinning Allison under
its weight. Though the act of wiping the blood seemed tender, it felt ice-cold.
To anyone else, his words would have sounded like a threat. But for Allison, it wasn’t a surprise. This madman
wouldn't leave quietly, not even in death.
“Then | can only hope we make it through tonight,” Allison said, blinking innocently. “But from the way you're
speaking, it sounds like we might make it, right?”
“Not necessarily. Just because | might survive doesn’t mean you will,” Verruckt said, tightening his grip on her
chin. “So, Alice, since you haven't crossed me, I'll give you one last chance to leave.”
