Chapter 135

Alice heard the commotion outside, but her vision was blurry. Jack's jacket shielded her from the scene, offering
a sense of safety. He looked down at the bodyguards on the floor, his lips pressed into a thin line. “Since you
won't talk, you won't be talking ever again.” The bodyguards’ faces were ashen. They hadn't expected the girl to
be saved by the King of the Washington social circle! Wasn't she an orphan?
Jack carried Alice out in the private elevator. She was nestled against him, covered by his jacket, unable to see
clearly. Her mind was a jumble. Her fingers dug into his collar, knuckles white. Max raced up the stairs, seeing
Jack entering the elevator, a girl in his arms. Though mostly covered, it was clearly a woman.
She hid, having waited anxiously for the bodyguards. Jack! What was going on? Did he have another woman?
And where was that little bitch, Alice?
Bodyguards blocked her path.“Do you know who | am? You dare stop me?!” She had to know what was going on,
report it to her sister, before that little hussy took advantage of the situation.
They didn’t budge. Max stamped her foot, furious. Chloe arrived.
“Ms. Garcia, what's wrong?”

“They're stopping me! My sister is engaged to the King! If he finds out, they're done for!” Chloe's eyes lit up at
at the mention of the King. The most powerful family in Washington. If only she had a chance....
Max grumbled, “He hates interruptions. He clears everyone out wherever he goes. | wonder where that little
bitch Alice is hiding.”
“She's probably hiding somewhere, waiting for the King to leave.”
“This time, Alice will be disgraced. She'll never mess withagain.”
Chloe felt a surge of glee. Once she got the videos of Alice, she would have total control. Alice would never
escape her clutches, never compete with her again.
In the room at the end of the hall, Luke wiped his hands.“You’'re awfully brave.” He hadn't tolerated anyone
hurting the girl he cared for.
“Mr. Yates, we're from the Garcia family. We were following Ms. Garcia's orders.”
“The Garcia family? They're nothing!” Luke had heard of Max's antics. She and her cronies often got away with
their bullying, thanks to family connections. This time, they'd picked the wrong fight.
He called Jack.“It’s Max's bodyguards. They had a conflict with Little Lemon and drugged her.” | understand. Take
care of the bodyguards.”
Jack hung up, looking at Alice in the hotel room.
Alice was clutching the sheets, sweat beading on her forehead. Jack’s gaze fell on the family. doctor.“What's
wrong with her? Can't
you see she’s suffering?s gaze
“Mr. Wilson, she was given a new club drug. I've given her an antidote, but | can’t guarantee the effects. The
drug acts fast, and it's been stime.”
Jack’s jaw tightened.“Are there any side effects?”

Jack approached Alice, touching her forehead. It was burning.“Want swater?”
Alice nuzzled his hand.“You're so cool.”
His gaze darkened. He fetched iced water, but saw Alice’s bare arm; her dress lay on the floor. His eyes
hardened.
“Drink swater.”
She was too weak. He held her, the blanket slipping down. He hastily pulled it up.“Don’t move!” He held her
close, letting her sip the water.
“Cough...” She choked, pulling the blanket. “It's so hot.”
Jack pressed down on her hand. His voice was husky.“Don’t move, you'll expose yourself!” “But I'm hot. Feel.”
She placed his hand on her chest, her eyes dark and bright. Jack froze, beads of sweat forming on his brow. His
throat bobbed. Her skin was burning hot., Her heart beat rapidly.
He looked down at her, his voice rough.“Alice, do you know what you're doing?” Their faces were close. His gaze
was intense, a familiar heat rising within him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him. It was clumsy,
almost like she was gnawing on him.
He cupped her chin, his eyes dark and dangerous. “Alice, be clear-headed. Know who I am! “I know who you
are!” She cupped his face.“If | had to choose, I'd choose you.” A string snapped inside him. Reason, it seemed,
was crumbling.
