MISTAKE 237

Chapter 237: Trouble comes knocking

"My boss would like to meet you," the tall man said.

"Who is your boss?" Vivian asked cautiously.

"You will know when you get there, Miss." he answered making Vivian pause with a frown on her face, then

shrug.

"I do not know your boss, so there is no need forto obey," she answered him. She was not sure what

possessed anyone to assthat she would just follow when ordered. It was one thing to be worried if it was

hotel security tracking her down for the groom's family and even the police, but why should she answer to some

random request?

"You had just acted a serious movie back there. Do you think it is wise that the groom finds out who you are?" he

asked and she froze.

Before she could answer, she heard someone call her name.

"Vivian?" she froze at the call of her name. She worried about being recognized in this place

today.

"Vivian, it's Vivian right?" she heard the female voice insist and she turned around to see who was calling to her.

The moment she saw the face of the person, she cursed inside. It was Lily Hanson, the girl that made her high

school life a living hell. Vivian had no smile on her face when she saw this girl. She did not bother to greet as she

just stared at her coldly. Seeing that they were still standing in the lobby, she turned to the security guard who

was beside her and nodded to him to show her the way. By the tLily walked over, Vivian only walked past her

with a cold expression. Lily was about to call to Vivian again, but when she saw Vivian's cold eyes, she held her

tongue. She understood that Vivian had definitely heard her, definitely seen her and definitely recognized her,

but she had decided to walk away either way. This made Lily stomp her feet in anger. On the other side, Vivian

had already walked quite far away from Lily at this point. The security refused to say anything as he led her to a

private room in a cozy restaurant. "The boss is waiting for you inside," the security said as they arrived at the

door of the private room. The security knocked twice and a deep voice ordered that they cin. He opened the

door and Vivian found herself in front of the man in the elevator. "You are the boss that calledover? What do

you want?" Vivian asked.

"To have dinner of course, Sit," he ordered and Vivian was not sure what to do. For sreason, there was a hint

of danger in his eyes and she did not know what this man wanted. But she was sure she should be be careful of

what she said. She slowly took a seat in front of him.

"Are you angry on behalf of the groom? | saw you seated on the bride's side, though," Vivian said.

"I am Mathew shaw, what is your name?" he asked and she hesitated. For sreason, she did not want to give

this man her name. But under his intense gaze, she answered without thinking.

"lI am Vivian," she answered.

"So, who hired you, Vivian?" he asked and she grimaced at his question. Sure enough, he was hear to find

trouble about what she did in the wedding hall.

"I do not understand?" she decided to deny it.

"Why do you suddenly not understand? You had already said | am on the side of the bride. This means that you

know what question | am asking" His words made her mutter a curse under her breath. What exactly was wrong

with her? She was usually so professional, and knew not to disclose information about her client and incriminate

herself. Why did she make a mistake when it cto this man? How could she possible have admitted her guilt

so quickly? As though seeing the mental self flogging she was doing in her mind, Mathew chuckled lightly.

"Do not worry. | am not here to defend anyone. | just thought, if were available to be hired right now," he said

and she slowly calmed down. Hired? Meaning that he was intending to hire her? This was an entirely different

situation.

"The mother of the bride hired me. She did not tellwhy, | am never interested in such information," Vivian

answered.

"And you will not tell anyone when you are done?" he raised a brow as though to mock her. She had already

spilled the beans to someone. How could she claim she was discreet?

"My line of job is never discreet. If the groom tries hard enough, he would really be able to find me. If he looks at

the security camera, he would find that | am the sperson. What you can be guaranteed on, is that | am not

easy to recognize. When my make up is off, | do not look this way," she pointed to her heavily caked face. "You

need to have knownpersonally to spot me. This makes it easier forto disappear. My aim is to make sure

people ask if they are really sure it is me," Vivian explained.

"So, you create doubt..." Mathew nodded.

"What about the first wedding? What were you doing there?" he asked.

"The bride askedto pretend to be her sister going away to study. My guess is, there will soon be news of my

death in about a month or so to their family."

"I could be recording this," he warned her.

"Yes, but neither of these particular jobs will bringany trouble. The bride of the first wedding would prefer it if

| remained dead, so revealing it is not something she will collaborate. As for the second wedding, at most,i could

be fined for throwing the groom on the ground and dragging him across the aisle. The mother of the bride hiring

be the one to bear all of the financial responsibilty that comes with it. It is in the agreement,"

Vivian answered.

"What about slander?" Mathew asked, "You did in fact accuse the groom of cheating and getting you pregnant,"

he said.

"I don't recall saying any of that," she answered and a smile grew on his handsface, making him more

handsthan usual. She could not help but stare.

"That is why | called you here. | realized, you had not really accused him of anything. | called you over to see if it

was a mistake, or you had done so deliberately. It seems even though you do not ask questions when taking on

cases, you do not take on ones that are too risky." he said and she nodded.

"You wanted to hire me? | am not cheap," Vivian said.

"| expect so. But you see, | need you to do a trial run forin thirty minutes," he said.

"No, | usually have all clients sign a contract. | will not agree to anything without a contract," Vivian countered.

"Easily done." Mathew nodded to one of his guards standing at the corner and he walked out and returned with a

pen and paper in no more than a minute. Mathew gestured to her and the guard placed the paper and pen in

front of her.

"Your terms," Mathew said to her and she paused and looked down at the paper. She picks up the pen but

pauses.

"This is no formal document, you know that," she said. Vivian felt that she had almost been duped. Even though

this agreement could be used at court, there was no lawyer present and the witnesses were all his men. If he

decided to default, she would not be able to do anything. She knew this.
