Everett, fresh out of the shower, saw her sitting there and knitting her brows in deep thought.
He walked over while towel-drying his still dripping hair.
"Go to my room and grab the medicine from the table. The room code is 0825." Dorothy immediately got up and nodded upon hearing his voice, "Sure thing, Mr. Lopez." Since the Lopez Corporation had a stake in this hotel, the presidential suite where Everett stayed was exclusively his. So he became the one to set the code.
She went to get his medicine, and on the way back, she couldn't help but ponder.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHis code hadn't changed, which meant his feelings for Heather probably hadn't either. Were they having another tiff? Even though her original plan to break the contract might be down the drain, she found herself oddly relieved.
Dorothy was really messing with her own head.
On one hand, she was desperate to escape the emotional entanglement of Everett and Heather, to stop being someone's stand- in.
On the other hand, the thought of having no connection with Everett once the contract ended made her feel a pang of loss.
That's right, loss. The feeling was crystal clear.
She could fool others, but not herself.
Back in the room, Everett had already changed his clothes and waited for Dorothy to apply his medication.
She shuffled over slowly, trying her best to keep her eyes off his well-built physique.
"Did the doctor say it would leave a scar?" To avoid the awkward silence, Dorothy started a conversation.
"Didn't ask." Everett's thin lips moved slightly, "Do you mind?" What did that have to do with me? She thought.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"If you think it's unsightly, it can be removed." Everett, when he woke up in the hospital, was too consumed with displeasure and anger to care about his wound.
Especially since Dorothy hadn't called or texted him since he woke up! "Was the accident happening while you were rushing to the hospital to find me?" She finally mustered the courage to ask after a second of hesitation.
Everett's gaze fell on her face.
If she hadn't brought it up, he would've let it slide. After all, when he decided to pursue Dorothy after they reunited, he knew it wasn't going to be easy.
It would require endless patience and time.
But since she had mentioned it, Everett sat up, "Why did you decide to let Kenneth pretend to be your boyfriend without even asking me?" "You're so busy. How could | bother you with my trivial matters?" "Dorothy! How many times have | told you before to share your troubles with me?" "But the problem... it's not easy to solve! If | brought you, I'd have to explain to my mom why you went from being my boss to my boyfriend, and..." And how could she dare to let Everett face her mother's harsh criticism!? She even felt guilty when she was facing Kenneth.
"You've never believed that | could face any problem with you, right?" He asked.
She blinked her eyes and met his gaze.
After a long silence, she nodded. "No, | don't believe." Dorothy smirked, "You're the golden boy grown up with everyone's adoration. We're not from the same world! Your time is spent on controlling a massive corporation, while | have to deal with all the trivial and chaotic stuff that can't be solved with money." How could they possibly face these together?
