To the outside world, it was all envy. They thought Dorothy had hit the jackpot, snagging Everett's favor.
But in her heart, it weighed like a ton of bricks.
What could she possibly give back to Everett? Dorothy believed that for a relationship to last, there should at least be some balance! It was near impossible to balance their statuses, but at least their efforts could have been equal.
After a full day of work, she received a message from Everett asking her to wait for him after his meeting so they could go home together.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWith the spare time, Dorothy tidied up her desk.
She had been too busy to sort out her documents. As long as she knew where they were, it was enough.
After tidying up, she checked her phone but there was no message from Everett.
His meeting must have been a tough nut to crack.
Stretching her back, Dorothy decided to take a stroll. But as soon as she stepped out of her office, she ran into the last person she wanted to see.
It was Heather.
Clearly, Heather hadn't expected to run into her either.
She was taken aback, "What are you doing here?" "I work for the Lopez Corporation. Isn't it normal for me to be here?" Dorothy's following sentence implied, “You've already quit.
You showing up at the Lopez Corporation is what's not normal!” But of course, she didn't say any of that.
Heather frowned, "Don't think you've won! You'll never pass the hurdle of Everett's parents!" Dorothy smirked, "As long as | have Everett's approval, that's enough. You had so many supporters, but you still couldn't end up with Everett, could you?" "Heh." Heather had never really taken Dorothy seriously. Her tone was filled with disdain, "Then cherish the days you can still see him! Eat what you want, buy what you want. Though you're spending what should have been my marital property with Everett, I'l let it slide." Dorothy didn't respond just because she didn't want to bother.

Heather continued to scoff, "His parents just sent me a set of jewelry in his name today! Do you want to know how much it cost?" "Yes." Dorothy nodded seriously, "Tell me the details. Tell me how much it cost and whether it was really in Everett's name. If it's confirmed, as Everett's legal wife, that's part of our marital property, and | have the right to claim it! You're a lawyer. You should know better than me." Heather was stunned and caught off guard by Dorothy's sharp tongue.
Dorothy walked past Heather, "Everett's parents probably don't know you're illegitimate, right? You don't even have the right to be one of the Sanchez family. What was your status called?" Heather didn't say anything.
"Oh, right, a concubine’s child! Actually, you're not even that. At least they could take their father's surname, but you can only go by Ms. Garcia." Heather was furious, she tried to reach out, but Dorothy dodged it.
"Dorothy, don't get too cocky! See how long your mom can live. The position of Mrs. Sanchez will be my mom's sooner or later!" "Even if my mom doesn't have that position, your mom is just a replacement.” She sneered, "Heather, don't think you can manipulate anyone. | just don't want to waste my time with you." If it came down to a war of words, she might not lose.
"You're just hiding behind Everett! Otherwise, you wouldn't even be qualified to stand here and talk to me!" "Yeah, so what? He's my husband, and it's only natural for me to rely on him." Just as Dorothy finished speaking, she felt a pair of hands on her shoulders.
It was Everett!
