"Alright then." Dorothy didn't quite get it, but she figured Kevin must have his reasons for saying what he did.
Kevin couldn't help but sigh as he thought about how innocent and naive she was.
No wonder Mr. Lopez played it so close to the chest before. If he didn't try to worm his way into Dorothy's life, she would probably be long gone before he even got the chance to confess his feelings. She was just like a scared rabbit.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJust as Kevin was about to leave after giving her instructions and collecting some documents, Dorothy suddenly called out to him. "Oh, by the way, I'm planning on getting a health check-up this Saturday. Are you sure you don't have anything planned for me?" She didn't want to be in the middle of her check-up and get called back to the office.
"Go ahead, it's all good." Kevin raised an eyebrow. "Something bothering you health-wise?" "Nah, just a routine check-up." "Ah, that's smart. With all the stress in our line of work and everything you've been through lately, keeping tabs on your health is a good habit. Now that you mention it, | should probably get myself checked out too." Kevin left with a wave and a chuckle, documents in hand.
Once she had his confirmation, Dorothy finally made an appointment at the hospital.
For the past few days, she had been on high alert for her period, but there was no sign of it. She was beginning to suspect that she might be pregnant.
Inside a high-end hospital room, Amanda had fallen into a depressive state and hadn't spoken a word in nearly three days.
Things were even worse than the doctors had anticipated.
Jonathan, fearing the worst, had someone watching her 24/7. They had thoroughly inspected every single item in the room, making sure nothing sharp was within reach.
"Knock, knock." There was a knock at the door.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJonathan gave the go-ahead, and the door opened.
It was Heather.
Jonathan glanced at her, then returned his gaze to his comatose wife.
Heather put down the fruit she had bought and looked worried. "Amanda... still not talking?" "She's been hit hard by the actions of the son she loves more than anyone. She’s been in and out of the ER. Her condition is even worse than before.” Heather fell silent.
Jonathan suddenly looked up. "Have you spoken to that woman?" Heather paused, then sighed. "I have. | begged her to leave Everett, but she refused. | told her about the situation; | even humbled myself to ask her to let me and Everett pretend to be a couple so Everett wouldn't be put in a difficult position, but... she didn't budge.” "So, she didn't agree to the pretending-to-be-a-couple idea?" "I guess not. After all, it's Everett's mother who's lying here, not hers. She's the only one who wouldn't worry or care.” Jonathan narrowed his eyes. A ruthless and cunning glint flashed in the depths of his eyes.
"Fine, then she can't blame me for what happens next." Heather continued, "What are you going to do? | think you should try not to be too impulsive. After all, she's Everett's sweetheart.
If you hurt her, I'm afraid your relationship with Everett might..." "Do | need to tiptoe around some little girl now?!" Jonathan clenched his hands into fists in anger. "I tried reasoning with them, | backed down, and | even sent you to give her a final warning. She doesn't care! Do you think | can let a woman like that marry into the Lopez family? She'll turn us upside down!" "But..." "There are no ‘buts.’ I've been more than patient as Everett's father." Jonathan paused as he frowned deeply. "I have to act fast.
If that Dorothy girl ends up pregnant, we'll have a real problem on our hands."
