Her eyes...
A bitter chuckle began tugging at the corners of Everett's lips.
He came to Everglow City in hopes of forgetting Dorothy and starting over, yet the sight of a random child reminded him of her face.
His mother used to say he was obsessed, and now he was finally ready to admit it.
Before he knew it, the little girl had disappeared. He instinctively glanced around, but she was nowhere to be found.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"I'm losing it." He depressingly muttered to himself.
He had allowed himself to be captivated by a little girl of all things.
"Did you say something, Mr. Lopez?" "No, let's head back to the hotel." Everett decided it might not be the best day to be out and about. It was best to go get some rest to avoid seeing her face in every passing stranger.
Though puzzled, the driver nodded obediently. After all, he could not afford to offend his employer.
"Alright, Mr. Lopez." Everett turned and began to walk against the flow of the crowd.
The driver, dutiful as ever, began to speak of Everglow City's unique features and other hot spots. "Tomorrow, we can go hiking in the morning when it's not too hot. The view from the top is breathtaking. Then | can take you to a popular local restaurant for some succulent barbecue ribs in the afternoon. You'll love it." Everett got into the car as he nodded in agreement.
He hadn't taken a break in years, so when he suddenly found himself with free time, he was at a loss. So, why not let the driver plan the day? As the car pulled away from the bustling night market, the driver, more like a tour guide now, began to talk about the local customs, painting a picture of warm and friendly people.
Everett listened attentively while nodding every now and then.
Suddenly, his gaze fell on the driver's seat of a car next to theirs, and he froze, even his blood ran cold.
That profile was one he would never forget.
It was Dorothy! The woman he had been painstakingly searching for was right there! With only three seconds left until the light would turn green, Everett turned to the driver and asked, "Do you see that black Audi on our right?" "Yes, it's the latest A4 model." The driver said, misunderstanding his question.
Then, in a deep voice, Everett said, "Hit it." "Excuse me?!" "Do it. I'l buy you a new car." Dorothy couldn't believe her luck.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmEverglow City was practically deserted at night, yet there were so many traffic lights.
She was in a hurry to get to the night market, yet she had hit over a dozen red lights. And as if that weren't enough, some reckless driver had just crashed into her.
CRASH! All Dorothy knew was that her car had shuddered after a sharp noise, which then resulted in the dashboard displaying an error message.
Speechless, she glanced at the other driver through the rear-view mirror. After some hateful thoughts crossed her mind, she stepped out of the car.
"How did you manage to hit me on such a wide road?" "I'm so sorry! | was lost in thought.” The other driver apologized profusely as soon as he got out of the car. His attitude was so sincere that Dorothy couldn't muster up the energy to scold him any further.
She walked around to inspect her car. The collision had caused some serious damage to the paint job and even left a dent.
Just as she was about to call her insurance company, the other driver quickly said, "I'll cover all the repair costs; there’s no need to contact your insurance company. Here, give me your phone number so | can transfer the money to you later."
