"Lane, imagine this. A little boy shows up out of the blue, claiming to be your son. You get a DNA test, and, lo and behold, he's yours. How'd you react?" Definitely baffled.
He'd been with more women than he could count, some whose names he couldn't even remember. He couldn't be one hundred percent certain that none of them had ulterior motives.
"But hasn't Everett always been a saint? Can he be compared to me?" Lane chuckled. "Who knows? Maybe he's got a wilder side than both of us combined.” "That's impossible! Ever since he broke up with Dorothy, he's practically been living at the office. He’s always online on the company software." "Does that necessarily mean he couldn't have done it?" Jeffrey raised his voice. "Hey! Why do | get the feeling you've got a beef with Everett?" Even this oblivious man, Jeffrey, could sense it.
"I'm just stating the facts." Lane smiled. "Alright, let me know if the kid turns out to be his son. | could use a popcorn moment.” "Screw you!" Jeffrey said, then hung up.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe was about to call Everett when Heather started bombarding him with calls, like a woman possessed.
Jeffrey didn't want to answer, but he accidentally did.
Heather's anxious voice came through. "Where are you? I... | think I'm having a heart attack..." "What?" Jeffrey was taken aback. "Since when do you have heart disease?" "Never mind that now. Can you come pick me up and take me to the hospital?" Jeffrey wanted to agree, but the kid was still sleeping. Should he wake him up now? "Jeffrey... are you going to abandon me too?" Heather added. Her voice sounded genuinely distressed, as if she could faint any second.
"Alright, I'm on my way. Send me your location.” "Okay." Jeffrey was a softie deep down.
He got up and walked over to the sleeping Langston with a small smile tugging at his lips.
After all these years, he could finally see what Everett looked like sleeping. He must look exactly like this kid.
Jeffrey didn't feel comfortable leaving him alone, fearing he'd wake up scared. So, he called his assistant to come over immediately, and then he left.
He figured that in the half an hour it would take his assistant to arrive, the kid would be fine alone in the room.
Jeffrey drove to the location Heather had sent.
It was so remote that he wondered why Heather had chosen to live there.

"Why are you living here?" Jeffrey helped her to the car, gently opening the door for her.
"I've been restless lately and unable to sleep. | thought the quiet here might help." Heather looked distressed. She was clutching at her chest the entire time.
Jeffrey glanced around the desolate surroundings and frowned. "You sure know how to pick a spot.” Heather shot him a look. "Stop mocking me. If you don't want to help, you can leave. Let me die here alone!" "I didn't say anything!" Jeffrey rolled his eyes, started the engine, and pulled up the GPS to the nearest hospital.
Before he could even pull out, his phone started ringing.
Suddenly, Heather clutched his arm and said, "Ouch... It hurts so much!"
