Jeffrey sneered, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"You think I'm going to destroy you now? | hardly recognize you anymore, Heather! You used to be gentle, understanding and gracious. You were a woman who would go through hell and high water for the Lopez Corporation and a woman who would stand firm in court to protect the company's interests. Look at you now!" "And why do you think that is, Jeffrey? If it wasn't for Dorothy snatching Everett away from me, I..." "Oh, so if Dorothy hadn't come along, do you think Everett would've fallen for you? Don't make me laugh! I'm not in the mood for pointless chatter. If you won't admit your faults, then I'll go to Everett myself." As he was about to hang up, Heather broke in, "You can't go, Jeffrey! If you do this, | will never forgive you." Jeffrey frowned, feeling closer to the truth, "What are you so afraid of?" "Because your going to Everett with all this will only worsen his impression of me! You can dig into my life all you want, but don't let Everett dig into this mess." She knew if Everett got involved, things wouldn't be as simple.
Having planned to quietly deal with the child, Heather never expected Jeffrey wouldn't give up! He seemed even more invested than Everett.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Heather, are you really that stubborn? I've told you before, hand over the child now and | won't let Everett know about this, | promise! Just spare the child, for my sake. But if you refuse, don't blame me for what happens next." Caught in a heated argument, Heather suddenly softened. She sobbed on the other end of the line.
"How do you expect me to prove my innocence? | had nothing to do with the child's disappearance. Do you want me dead? Will you only believe me if I'm dead?" Jeffrey was speechless.
"Fine! I'l die! You all despise me anyway, considering me a burden. | can't live like this anymore, with every scandal and smear landing on my shoulders. | might as well die, then you won't have to insult me anymore!" Her plea made Jeffrey doubt.
Could he have wronged her? "Swear to me, you didn't harm the child." "I swear! If | have, may | never rest in peace!" Heather swore without hesitation.
After all, she never believed in these things.
People say God can provide blessings and retributions, but all the times she prayed during her childhood, hoping for a better life, did God hear her? No! God never blessed her! The public humiliation and the disdainful glances never ceased.
Since blessings were never given, she believed retributions would be the same.
"Fine, I'll believe you for now." Jeffrey sighed, ending the call.

Although he disapproved of Heather's actions, he didn't want to wrong her! After all, she was the only woman he truly loved.
The old Heather was truly dazzling.
At the hospital, the director personally welcomed Everett. He dared not show any negligence.
"Mr. Lopez, welcome. | didn't know you were coming today; my apologies for not being able to greet you properly." Everett glanced at the director, too busy for pleasantries.
"I need you to pull up all of Dorothy's medical records, not a single page missing."
