“I’m going to press charges against you! I’ll make sure your restaurant is no longer in business! You’re going to pay for what you
put me through today. This isn’t something that can be solved with an apology. Just wait and see!”
Rita looked fierce, and her tone was fearsome too. Maia was kind of impressed with her. She was drenched through and
through. She was also shivering and looked very miserable.
However, she still found the time to shout at the restaurant staff. Shouldn’t she have a change of clothes before she did that?
Maia felt a little helpless. So, she listened to Rita’s incessant grievance as the restaurant manager apologized to her repeatedly.
Then she frowned.
She hatched the plan. “I think we shouldn’t make this bigger, mother. Cedric bought this place. So, it’s technically the Larkin
family’s property.”
“I–If we make this thing bigger than it is, it will affect their profit. Money isn’t as big an issue as our family’s reputation.”
Rita used to tell her countless times that she had to learn to tolerate everything for the sake of the Larkin family’s reputation. So,
that was what she did.
Maia was telling Rita the same thing now.
Rita calmed down when she heard what Maia said. She realized that Cedric bought this restaurant. It wouldn’t be good for the
Larkin family and herself if she kept this up.
“Mom,” Maia could tell Rita was hesitating. So, she moved to mitigate the situation, “Let’s get you home and cleaned up. It won’t
do you catch a cold. You have to take care of yourself before you can go after the restaurant.”
Maia’s voice was so soft, and it worked well on Rita.
“You’re right.” Rita shivered from the cold. Then she glanced at the restaurant manager, who kept his head lowered.
was the victim of your busted door and sprinkler system in the toilet! What if the same thing happened to the other customers?”
“The restaurant belongs to the Larkin family. That means you must ensure everything, down to the tiniest detail, runs perfectly.
However, I see flaws everywhere! Today’s the last day for all of you! You’re all fired!”
“Understood.” There was nothing else the restaurant manager and his team could say. Then Rita left spitefully with the blanket
still wrapped tightly around her.

“Let me get my purse.” Maia went back to her seat immediately. Then, the bodyguard handed her a thumb drive with a copy of
the footage. She nodded at him and took off.
Rita’s car was long gone by the time Maia came out of the restaurant. Rita acted as if she were tough when, in fact, she was
nothing.
Maia shook her head helplessly. Just as well. She wouldn’t have to keep acting if Rita was gone. All of a sudden, her phone
buzzed. It was a text from Cedric.
“Look across the street.”
Maia saw a Tesla pulled over at the side of the street. The car door opened and out came Cedric. He was dressed in smart attire.
He crossed the street and walked to her.
“What are you doing here?”
“Are you done with your act?”
“Yeah.” Maia nodded and handed him the thumb drive. “A gift for you, Cedric.”
He chuckled, knowing its content. Maia was confused and asked, “What are you chuckling at? You said you’re eager to see what
I can do. You even bought the restaurant and switched every staff member to our people. I’ve got to give you something in
return.”
“Our people?” Cedric asked deliberately. Maia was startled. Did she just say ‘our people‘?
“I know that,” Cedric said calmly.
“You knew?” she was stunned. How fast did he work?
“The bodyguard gave me a copy too.”
How was she this silly? This is his restaurant. The staff reported to him, too. Whatever she did, it was done in his territory. Of
course, he knew about it!
“What’s holding you back?”
She frowned, not understanding him, “What are you talking about? What do you mean by holding back?”
“You could’ve made her admit that she pushed you off the stairs and caused your miscarriage.”
He had been searching for evidence for this incident. It didn’t matter if Tess had been meticulous or if there was practically no
lead left. He had never given up on it for the past two
years..

Maia was the victim as well as the only eyewitness to this incident. The fact that so much time. had passed since then didn’t help
at all.
She didn’t say anything. Instead, she blinked and stared at him quietly. She was astonished. “1–I thought you didn’t believe
me...”
He even wanted her to question Rita just now so she could get an admission of guilt from his mother. She was in a daze for a
second. She thought she misheard him.
“I believe you.”
She’s utterly dumbfounded now. No word would come out of her mouth. Her eyes flickered...
“I believe in everything you told me.”
He believed that she was pushed off the stairs and that Rita was the cold–blooded murderer who took their baby’s life.
He believed her. Unconditionally. He said it. He finally said that he believed her!
However... It was too little, too late. How good it would’ve been if he had also believed her in the past.
Maia smiled bitterly. Then, she tried hard to hide her emotions, “Rita is not a fool. I unnerved her with Zera’s incident. She
would’ve realized that I had planned everything if I brought up my miscarriage.
“We need to focus on the bigger picture now. She cannot know I haven’t lost my memories.”
